Kindle Books.

Hey guys,
I recently had a kindle as a present and recently started reading e books.
I will admit when kindles first came out i didnt want one as i prefer real books to holding a plastic tablet to read a book but i am slowly changing my opinion. I still prefer real paperback books but on amazon you can get some really good books for free and some times you can get a publisher to send books to review straight to your kindle.

I like how if i am at a friends and they say to read a certain book i can purchase the money online and when i get home it will be on my kindle ready and waiting.

I am going on two small holidays this year and although they are both in england and i wont be going on a plane i think a kindle is the way forward as you save space carrying one kindle instead of three or four books and also i have the kindle fire so can also plays games and watch films  whilst on holiday which i think is a really good idea.

I have recently tried an audio book and will be reviewing what i thought of that soon and also will be doing a audio vs ebook post very soon.

See you soon.

Paperback Vs Hardback

Hey guys,
Today I thought I would something a bit different.
One question that's asked on a lot of tags online which do you prefer paperback or hardback. Now my answer is simple I prefer paperbacks. Don't get me wrong if someone buys me a hardback I won't throw it out or then buy the same book in hardback but if I go into a book store I tend to go for paperbacks.

Pros and cons of hardback:
Cons
Hardback books as it states hardback which can make these heavy and very big. They have covers on them to save the hardcover but in my case end up getting ripped so I then have to take them off and then the book looks boring and plain. Some hardback books I find are more expensive and are hardly ever in a sale. Hardback books don't tend to fit through a letter box so I have to then collect from the post office when I can get to one.
Pros
Hardback books tend to feel a quicker read as there are less pages as the font it usually quite big. Hardback books come out first so you get to get a book earlier than waiting for the paperback. They are steady and don't rip as much in accidents and corner of pages don't get bent in my bag as the cover protects the pages.

Pros and cons of paperbacks
Cons
You have to wait longer to get a paperback as they come out 3 months later than the hardback books. Sometimes a paperback with small font seems like a really long book with over 500 pages.
Pros
Paperback books are always in a sale they are smaller and easier to hold and also tend to have beautiful covers. Paperback books can fit through letterboxs unless they are very big books. Paperbacks are usually used as arcs by publishers for a reason. Paperback books are cheaper and lastly paperback are easier to read without ruining the spine. Paperback books are very popular for a reason and in my opinion are better.

What do you think paperback or hardback?
I will be doing a post on e-books vs audio books very soon.
See you soon

The Cuckoo's Calling By Robert Galbraith.

Hey Guys,
Product Details:
Publisher: Sphere 2014.
Paperback. 550 Pages.
Source: Bought By Fiance.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: When a troubled model falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts, and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike to look into the case. Strike is a war veteran - wounded both physically and psychologically - and his life is in disarray. The case gives him a financial lifeline, but it comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model's complex world, the darker things get - and the closer he gets to terrible danger . . .

Let's start off with the truth... This brilliant book was written by J K Rowling! One thing I don't understand is why she used a different name as this book is brilliant.
For Valentine's day my fiancé got me a waterstone's voucher and when I saw this was half price I had to get it. J K Rowling writes perfectly it's not to fast or slow it doesn't miss big pieces off of the story line and I couldn't put this down from page one.
This book starts off with the suicide of a model who jumps from her balcony and just like that I was hooked. Through this book you learn about each character slowly. Strike investigates Lula's death with the help of his temporary assistant Robin. Each character has their own story and all of lula's friends and family become a suspect at one time or another. I really enjoyed this book although I didn't get the urge to take it to work and stuff like I have done with other books in the past but when I got home it would be the first thing I picked up.
I think the ending was brilliant and I will be re reading and purchasing the rest of this series. I am very excited for Silkworm to come out in june, but I will probably wait for it to come out in papaerback. This was written in 2nd person as was from both Robins and Strikes point of view at one time.
Have you read this book and enjoy it?

Karlolgy By Karl Pilkington.

Hey Guys,
Product Details:
Publisher: Dorling Kindersley 2009.
Paperback. 219 Pages.
Source: Borrowed from a friend.
Rating: 2 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: This is a voyage through the strange yet mesmerising mind of cult author Karl Pilkington, now in paperback. By his own admission Karl Pilkington left formal education behind with only an E in History to his name and not much else. Ever since, his thirst for knowledge has nagged. With this in mind, Karl has embarked on a tour of discovery to make up for the lost years of learning, and to find out more stuff. "Karlology" is the result. So what exactly has Karl Pilkington learned so far? This is a man, it should be noted, who thinks owning 1,777 acres of the moon is a good idea, and believes that the human testicles should be relocated to the earlobes. Maybe he's right.
I will start by saying this book will be very very short. I love Karl on tv and in books, I think he is a very funny and honest bloke. As I have loved his other books which I have reviewed on here I thought I would try his earlier stuff and I guessing that as he gets older he gets funnier as I didn't find these as funny as the others I have read.
Where as the idiot abroad books literally had me in tears from laughing this books I laughed just once or twice.
This is not a "story" but Karl gets to visit a few different museums and shares with us what he learns. This is very factual but like I have already said not very funny. This is not a book I will be purchasing myself to have my own copy.  This is written in 1st person obviously from Karls point of view.
See you soon.

Poppet By Mo Hayder.

Hey Guys,
Product Details:
Publisher: Bantam Books 2013.
Paperback. 501 Pages.
Source: Bought Myself.
Rating: 5 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: The patients at Beechway High Secure Unit are terrified. Unexplained power cuts have lead to a series of horrifying incidents. And now fear has spread from the inmates to the staff. DI Jack Caffery is called to investigate, whilst working the most impossible case of his life. Will he be able to stare pure evil in the eye, and survive?
This is the latest in the DI Jack Caffery book series, but I bought this book as my mum calls me poppet and without reading the synopsis which is a bit naughty but I am so glad I purchased it.
The beginning of this books is brilliant straight into the action. Strange things have been happening at beechway a secure unit for psychiatric patients. One of the patients, Issac Handel, is discarged as he is deemed as safe and sane for the real world and the strange things stop happening, so is he really sane? You learn about Jack Caffery's other important case but he doesn't start to investigate at beechway until halfway through the book. I liked how all the caracters were linked together in one way or aother. Aj and Melanie who both work at beechway become a couple and stick together through these hard/strange times. Great read, not one thing wrong with it.
100% loved this book was a book I will be re-reading and very soon. I think I will go and purchase more of this series as I enjoyed this so much.
I'm sorry this is a short post, but I read this book awhile ago and even though I jot down notes I didn't jot down as much as I usually do.
Glad to be back to my reading though

Kindle Fire Hd Review.

Hey guys,
Today i thought i would review my new kindle fire HD.
If i am honest when these first came out i didn't want one as i prefer books, but recently i have been asked by a few publishers to read and review books and most them have been e-books and the fact I am going on two holidays this year I thought it would kill two birds with one stone saves having to take a load of books with me on holiday.
My fiance actually bought it for me as a very early birthday gift and I love it.

Now the kindle he fire has apps on it also and I think that's great. Apps are very up to date and you can gets movies on it also although I haven't tried this yet. Apps so far I have found run smoothly and I have no problems so far.
Books I was pleased to see some good free books on the amazon book store and have purchased a few myself. You can get the latest books with great prices and offers.
Books are great to read on the kindle you can bookmark certain pages put notes on and also it tells you how fast or slow your reading is and how long it will take you to finish the book or chapter.
All in all I give the kindle fire he 5 out of 5. I don't know why I didn't get one sooner as now I can read in bed without the lamp or big light on to annoy my fiance whilst he is trying to sleep. I highly recommend a kindle fire of if you like to play games as well as have a tablet with books on it also.
Sorry this is such a short post but this is my first post written on the kindle.
See you soon

Maze Runner by James Dashner.

Hey Guys,

Product Details:
Publisher: Chicken House 2010.
Paperback. 371 Pages.
Source: Bought Myself.
Rating: 5 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: "If you ain't scared, you ain't human."
When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He's surrounded by strangers--boys whose memories are also gone. Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It's the only way out--and no one's ever made it through alive. Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying...

I had heard so may great things said about James Dashner's writing and the amount of reviews I had read about this series was so high, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and so I purchase the series for myself.
From page one you are thrown in just like Thomas(the main character) not knowing what is going on, and just like Thomas you slowly learn through the book what is really going on. I really enjoyed that style of writing as you get to "experience" the storyline as much as the characters. You learn about the Glade, this place where boys live and they have to work to live and each person has their own little job to help run the glade. Throughout the beginning of the book Thomas feels as though is has to be a Maze Runner he doesn't know why, all he knows is he will become a Maze runner and he does. The maze runners job is everyday to run around the maze to find a way out, but the walls close in at night and that is also when the horrible "creators" come out to play. The Glade has it's own slang/accent and just like Thomas you have to learn what certain words mean and slowly through the book you understand what they are saying. The relationship between Thomas and Chuck is so heart warming, it's like they were best friends before and they picking up where they left off. All the way through the book you get this sense that Thomas has been here before and some of the boys "remember" him.
When the girl is entered in to the Glade everyone looks at Thomas as he was the last "newbie" on the block so he must know something. This is where the story gets very exciting and the twist within the story starts to take shape. What I loved about this book is every chapter is left on a cliff hanger so you can't put it down, as you want to know what's going to happen. This book certainly keeps you on your toes, but at the same time is not fast paced.
This book is a great read and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Without spoiling it for anyone who hasn't read this book my favourite part in this book is the very last chapter... as I sat there and said out loud "Oh my god!!!!!!!" My fiancĂ© thought I was weird talking to a book, but he talks to the telly haha.
I wouldn't say these were young adult books, as my nephew who is 11 has this book on his kindle and loves it that much he has read it twice.
See you soon.

A Place Called Here by Cecelia Ahern.

Hey Guys,
Product Details:
Publisher: Harper 2007.
Paperback. 484 Pages.
Source: Bought for me.
Rating: 3 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: Ever wonder where the lost things go? Ever since the day her classmate Jenny-May Butler vanished, Sandy Shortt has been haunted by what happens when something – or someone – disappears. Finding has become her goal. Jack Ruttle is desperate to find his younger brother Donal who vanished into thin air a year ago. So when he spots an ad for Sandy’s missing persons agency, he’s certain that she will answer his prayers and find his missing brother. But then Sandy disappears too, stumbling upon a place that is a world away from the only one she has ever known. Now all she wants, more than anything, is to find her way home.

I read Book of tomorrow a few years ago and really enjoyed it, so when my mother-in-law to be bought me this book from a car boot I was excited to read it.
Sandy Shortt is obsessed with finding lost things, she checks her bag over and over to make sure nothing is lost and if she does happen to loose something she does everything she can to find it again. Sandy has her on agency that helps find missing people and when she is on a case to find Jack's brother she herself becomes lost/missing. I really liked how this book starts off with a bit of Sandy's background and then how she is now missing. The book doesn't tell you how she became lost, but it's a heart warming story as she finally meets people she has been searching for, for years.
I liked how "here" and the real world are so similar yet they seem on two different planets. "Here" has all the missing things people have lost over the years, odd socks, books, diaries, you name it, if it's lost it's at "here"
Sandy starts to fit in at "here", she gets on with everyone, but when she looses her watch you get a glimmer of hope that there is a way back, as if it's lost it must be "here".
This book is a real tear filled story, which makes this book so loveable and is an easy read. This was written in 1st person for Sandy and the parts when Jack is searching for Sandy it is written in 3rd person. Now I really did like this book the way it was written and so on, but at the same time, to me it was too much of a chick flick. If you like those kinds of stories you will love this book, but for me I don't tend to enjoy books like this all that much. I have gave my copy to a new owner who does enjoy this types of books and she loved it. I guess as I have grown up my taste in "good" re-readable books has changed. This won't be the last chick flick book I will read though.
See you soon.

My Bookshelf Tour.

Hey Guys,
Today I thought I would do something different and do a bookshelf tour. Even thought my love for books has been since I was a little girl my old bedroom, when I lived with my mother, wasn't big enough for all my things and a bookshelf. My mother did have bookshelves but they were for her office for work books and DVD's so until I moved out I never had a bookshelf. Infact, I used to store my books in a plastic storage container underneath my bed and have small TBR pile on my bedside table. When I had space to have a bookshelf it was the first thing I bought for my new house.

Sorry the lighting isn't great in this picture but I wanted you to see an over view on my bookshelf. It's a standard white Billy bookshelf from Ikea With 7 shelves. I have sorted my books out to my liking. I would like to say these aren't all my books, this are all my favourites or TBR's.

Unless my books are in series I have my books in page number order. As they are already in genre order, but if I feel like a quick read I got to the start of shelf and if I want a bigger read I go to the end. I wouldn't normally do this, but I am currently doing the Big book challenge on Goodreads and I find it easier to find/choose a "big" book.

This is my Misc shelf. On my first shelf are a few Tess Gerritsen books that are stand alone books. Up to The Invisible ones are a few books that I have that are in a series but I haven't got the whole series yet. Then I have obsession series, Divergent series and Game series. As you can see there are other books they are the ones my fiancĂ© bought for me recently. I also have two "ornaments" My butter beer cup from Harry Potter world and a small keep sake "For Daughter with love" which my mum got me for my 13th birthday.
This is my favourite shelf. This is my Patricia Cornwell series collection. I have read all of Patricia Cornwell's books and just waiting for Dust to come out in paperback. I also have a few others, on this shelf, I haven't read yet to fill the gap. As you can see I have a small Ornament on the edge of myself. SAW is my favourite film collection I have watched them countless amounts of times and still never got bored. In the film, there is a puppet called Billy and when I saw this as a earphone jack for you mobile I had to buy it, but from putting the phone in my pocket and bag Billy fell off so I kept him to sit on my "thriller" shelf. I think he goes well with the theme of the books.
This is to me is my "chick flick" shelf. These are all happy, love stories and I do have one thriller on this shelf as I ran out of space for it on other shelves but is the next book I am going to read. I didn't put an ornament on my bookshelf as I think the colours of the spines of these books are really pretty and should be shown off.
This shelf is also a "thriller/crime" shelf. By now I think you can guess my favourite genre. The Scott Mariani books are a series I just haven't got them all yet but as I have most of them I thought I but them on a shelf together. The slasher movies books isn't a novel it's a book with all the scary films in, and this books tells you all about the film, who wrote it, producer it and who's in it. As you can see I have a little Smurf reading a book on this shelf. I have had him for years and I always stick him with bluetack to make him stand up on things.
This is my kids/series book shelf. I have two books from when I was growing up. They are the two books my mum used to read to me the most when I was little and I have kept them for sentimental value. I then have the Meerkat Manor collection. I love Meerkats and my mum bought these me as a joke, but I like them anyway. They are ment for kids but one I will get the chance to read them to my own kids. Then I have the Harry potter library books and Harry Potter series. I also have Heidi, my nan(my mums mum) was Austrian which makes my quarter Austrian and she told me a story in Viennese once and even thought I didn't understand what she was saying, I asked what it was she told me it was Heidi and then bought the book for me. We would watch the film and read the book together I loved it and still do if I am honest. I also have the Twilight series, The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner Series.

These are my two childhood books that my mum used to read to me. Laura's Star was always my favourite as I am also called Laura it had a special place in my heart.

This is my "True Life" shelf. This are mostly real stories from celebrities and others about people/children that have bad lives to start with. As you can see I do have a couple crime/thrillers in there too, but i have no where else to put them.

This is my "Kathy Reichs and other series" shelf. I have most of the Kathy Reichs books and have recently started reading this series. On this shelf I put a small TBR pile and I also have my other series collections. They aren't all complete but, I wanted to keep these books altogether.

Well I hope you enjoyed this post, it was something different compared to book reviewing all the time.
See you soon.

The Abduction by Mark Gimenez.

Hey Again,
Product Details:
Publisher: Sphere First Published 2007, My Copy 2013.
Paperback. 503 Pages.
Source: Bought by myself.
Rating: 2 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: Ben Brice lives alone in the New Mexico wilderness where he battles memories of Vietnam with oceans of Jim Beam. Miles away in Texas, his estranged son, John, an Internet geek-turned-billionaire, half watches his daughter Gracie's soccer game while conducting business on his cell phone. When her mother Elizabeth arrives, the coach reports that her uncle has already collected Gracie. But Gracie has no uncle -- she was kidnapped. From international best-selling author Mark Gimenez comes a terrifying thriller in which dark family secrets make the finding of ten-year-old Gracie Brice more uncertain with every passing minute. And so begins a furious race against time to save Gracie from unknown kidnappers. With the FBI camped out in the Brice mansion, the family offers a reward of $25 million. Somehow, Ben and John Brice must find Gracie before it is too late. As the story unfolds with riveting twists and turns, the reader discovers that behind the kidnapping is an extraordinary government plot that could change the course of American history. And time is running out . . .

With this book the blurb did it for me, I was so excited to read this book. I will say from the off I wasn't 100% as it did take me a few chapters to get into, but once I did start to enjoy it turned into a great page turner.
Each main character has their own background, problems and loss; Elizabeth, Gracie's Mother, when Gracie goes missing she pushes everyone away and gets mad at anyone and everyone, John, Gracie's Father, his world is turned upside down and collapses before him, Ben, Gracie's grandfather, stops drinking everyday and jumps at the chance of proving himself and helps to find Gracie and Paul Ryan, Detective, feels the same as Ben that the police have the wrong guy. Ben and Paul start to work together and put their heads together to find Gracie and I thought even though Ben had never been a brilliant Grand father he was the only one really trying to get her back.
Halfway through the book I started to not like it so much, it was too much about war and Ben and less and less about Gracie. I thought the "connection" between Gracie and Ben, was a bit far fetched for me, how he could sense she was cold or tired or alive and the way she could sense he was coming for her was to me a bit strange. You hear about twins having this pull but not between granddaughter and grandfather you don't.
*SPOILER* Towards the end I got so bored as it just turned into some war book from Ben's past and  the people who had taken Gracie was just for Revenge, which was a bit crap to me. As it had been 30 years and now they decide to kidnap his granddaughter.. I mean come on. If I am totally honest if the revenge wasn't because of some war years ago I probably would have enjoyed it, but as I don't like books about history and war all that much it ruined it for me. If you did enjoy this book far enough, but just because of the war thing it was ruined for me.

See you soon,

Best Day of the Week...Friday.

Hey guys.
Today's posts is a little different it's not a review or haul but it still is bookish.
Friday's to me is the best day of the Week and no it's not because no more get ups as I work on Saturdays but because newspapers do a weekend spread they offer good films to watch in cinemas and DVD's, TV programmes to watch, games to play and of course books to read.
As I work in a newsagents I get the chance to read through the papers daily but Friday's I always skip to the "something for the weekend" part. Now all papers are wrote by different people so each give their own views but I love reading the mini reviews and what's hot at the moment and what's not so hot. They sometimes do author interviews which I enjoy reading as I like to learn how they got into writing books and stuff. I have found not all newspapers do do this spread in the papers but most of them do.
If I read a review and like the sound of the book I not the author and title down and research it when I get home so see what other people think.
This is a short post but I hope you enjoyed it.
Do you buy newspapers to read about the books? If so comment below tell me which paper is your favourite one to pick up.
See you soon.

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Things (That Aren't Books) That I'd Like To Own

Hey Guys.

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish.
This weeks Top Ten are Bookish things. Things you would like to have or do actually already have.
This is my first post of Top Ten so I hope you enjoy this post.

1) I do actually already own this. I saw this mug on the opening credits of Debra's Bookcafe videos on youtube and had to get it. My fiancé actually bought it for me, for Christmas.

2) Even though I have a full bookshelf and wouldn't have space to use bookends. I really like these. They are generally basic but to me stand out so well as it's just two people reading a book and I love them so much.

3) A kindle. I don't mind what type it is as long as it has a light for background so I can read in bed whilst my fiancĂ© sleeps without him moaning about the lamp being on. The reason I don't one of these already is because I prefer books, there is nothing better than holding a book and enjoying it's feel, smell and pages, but I am getting asked more and more to review books for publishers but they are all e-books so I guess I must bite the bullet and get one.

4) Now this one, i'm not even sure you can get but when I was looking on the internet for a book mark I found this and I love it. I love the idea of this book bed sheet. It's like going to sleep in a hue book!

5) I have a few tattoos and when I looking for a new design a few weeks ago I saw this picture and thought it was nice. Obviously it's not an item but to have a tattoo for your passion for books is a really good idea. I know people even get quotes from the books tattooed onto themselves.

6) I am not even sure if you can buy one of these, but since reading the Harry Potter books I have always wanted a snitch.

7) I really like this do not disturb sign. As my fiancĂ© likes to watch TV so I go into our bedroom and read, but he gets bored and always disturbs me so if I had this sign maybe he would leave me to read in peace haha.

8) This phone case is super cool. I want one right now.

9) A bookshelf Shower Curtain. Is a cool idea. You should be able to personalise them yourselves and have your favourite books on display or even quotes from your favourite books.

10) A book chair. This is my favourite out of all the ones i have picked for this list. This chair has shelf storage for your books/tbr and then a place for food or a drink. This would be even better if it reclined so you could fully relax in the chair and unwind with a great book.

Well I really enjoyed doing this post. It opened my eyes a little wider to see how book the book world actually is. Sometimes you feel on your own reading books, but this post helped me see it's not just me. I will be honest I had a hard time finding two or three things for this list, but I found some really interesting things from doing this post.
I hope you will join me in this weeks top ten list.

The Innocent by David Baldacci.

Hey Guys,
Product Details:
Publisher: Grand Central 2012.
Paperback. 422 Pages.
Source: Borrowed this book from my mother.
Rating: 3 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: America has enemies--ruthless people that the police, the FBI, even the military can't stop. That's when the U.S. government calls on Will Robie, a stone cold hitman who never questions orders and always nails his target. But Will Robie may have just made the first--and last--mistake of his career . . .
THE INNOCENT
It begins with a hit gone wrong. Robie is dispatched to eliminate a target unusually close to home in Washington, D.C. But something about this mission doesn't seem right to Robie, and he does the unthinkable. He refuses to kill. Now, Robie becomes a target himself and must escape from his own people.Fleeing the scene, Robie crosses paths with a wayward teenage girl, a fourteen-year-old runaway from a foster home. But she isn't an ordinary runaway-her parents were murdered, and her own life is in danger. Against all of his professional habits, Robie rescues her and finds he can't walk away. He needs to help her. Even worse, the more Robie learns about the girl, the more he's convinced she is at the center of a vast cover-up, one that may explain her parents' deaths and stretch to unimaginable levels of power. Now, Robie may have to step out of the shadows in order to save this girl's life . . . and perhaps his own

The beginning of this book was brilliant, straight away it turned into a great page turner with many twists. Will Robie is a hitman and when a job goes wrong and someone else from the sidelines kill the guy he was supposed to kill, whilst Will Robie is in the room everything goes horribly wrong. Will Robie then has to stay away from the people who did actually kill the guy at the same time as trying to stay alive. To make matters even worse for Will Robie is then has to uncover who killed that innocent human and why. There are many characters within this book and to be honest I was reading this book when I first moved into my new home and didn't get into the story as much as I have liked, so I will probably me re-reading and seeing if I will like it with a fair chance. I can't say as much as I usually would about this book as even though it was really good I didn't give it my full attention as I was busy moving house, but if/when I do re-read I will happily re-review or update this blog post.
This book was written in 3rd person and was the first in the Will Robie series. I have read many good reviews on this series and other of David Baldacci's books.
Have you read any that were good? If so leave a comment below.

The Haunting of James Hastings by Christopher Ransom.

Hey Guys,
Product Details:
Publisher: Ransom 2010.
Paperback. 438 Pages.
Source: Bought myself.
Rating: 1 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: James Hastings' wife is dead - her life snuffed out in a horrific accident that leaves her husband shattered. Dizzy with grief and guilt, James withdraws into his sprawling mansion, losing himself in liquor ...and memories of Stacey. Until the day two women enter his life. One is Annette, a gorgeous stranger with a dark past. The other is not a stranger, and her past is all too familiar. First her voice echoes through the phone lines, and from behind the ballroom doors ...Then her shoes reappear, streaked with mud and grime, as though unearthed from the grave ...And soon Annette begins saying things only Stacey could know, enveloping James in a spiral of terror and violence that threatens to destroy his home, his sanity, and his soul. For death is only the beginning of his nightmare. And the haunting of James Hastings might just be the end of him...

I will be honest I was naughty as I didn't read the blurb or even notice this book was written by Christopher Ransom until I got home as the cover made me want to buy this book. I think the cover is great, it ties in perfectly with the story too. Once I did notice this book was written by Christopher Ransom, I was a little annoyed with myself, but I decided to give Christopher a second chance for me to love his writing.
The first few pages sucks you in. James the main character looses his wife in a accident/hit & run. The wife/widow of the person who killed James' wife, Annette, comes to make peace with James and they drawn to each other and become a couple, which to me was a bit daft as they won't find peace in each others underwear. Annette Slowly starts to turn into Stacey, James' dead wife. She wears same clothes, dyes her hair and stuff, it's actually spooks James a few times.
It's a spine chilling read that unlike The Birthing House , which I have reviewed here, is believable...Until the last hundred or so pages and to me the story was once again was ruined for me. The book just got confusing as one minute you think everything is solved and then it's not. Best way to describe how the ending of this book is with no spoilers is, when something happens to you and someone says "sorry it was me" and then goes "haha only joking it wasn't really", and then says " HA Na seriously it was me" and it goes on and on. The book just once again got very confusing and I couldn't make sense of any of it, to the point I got so mad I actually through the book up the wall. The book is written in both 1st and 3rd person which is confusing as I was unsure of what to make of the writing. Just as everything comes together the plot changes over & over & over. I had to re-read some parts just to make sense of it and that didn't help. I will not be re-reading this book and I won't be reading any more Christopher Ransom books, if any of you actually enjoy his books then great, but for me the twists are too much.
Sorry this wasn't a, I loved this book type of review, but you gotta take the good with the bad.

The Favored Queen by Carolly Erickson.

Hey Guys,
Product Details:
Publisher: St Martins Press.
Paperback. 295 Pages.
Source: Bought myself.
Rating: 3 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: Born into an ambitious noble family, young Jane Seymour is sent to Court as a Maid of Honor to Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII’s aging queen. She is devoted to her mistress and watches with empathy as the calculating Anne Boleyn contrives to supplant her as queen. Anne’s single-minded intriguing threatens all who stand in her way; she does not hesitate to arrange the murder of a woman who knows a secret so dark that, if revealed, would make it impossible for the king to marry Anne. Once Anne becomes queen, no one at court is safe, and Jane herself becomes the victim of Anne’s venomous rage when she suspects Jane has become the object of the king’s lust. Henry, fearing that Anne’s inability to give him a son is a sign of divine wrath, asks Jane to become his next queen. Deeply reluctant to embark on such a dangerous course, Jane must choose between her heart and her loyalty to the king

I don't usually read historic books as I'm not a fan of learning about the past, but as I am trying to broaden my reading material for this blog, so I thought I would give this a try as I have read many good reviews on this book. This is written in 1st person like a journal from Jane Seymour's point of view, but I wouldn't say this book was about Jane Seymour herself. At the start of this book it's all about Catherine of Aragon, who straight away I really felt for, as even though she knew Anne Boleyn was Henry's lover she still kept her alive. Catherine seemed to love Henry enough to let him be happy with Anne.
The book then changed into being all about Anne, who I didn't like, as she was portrayed as a stuck up cow who loved herself too much. Henry, to me, let the power goes to his head.
Jane, even though the blurb makes you think the book is all about her, you don't really get to know her as much as the others, but she does portray herself as a very nice thoughtful lady, that like everyone, makes a few mistakes.
I won't be reading again as I thought the book was a bit of a let down as it was hardly about Jane Seymour. I have since reading the book read some of the book reviews with spoilers in and they think the same as me that the book wasn't about Jane Seymour all that much and that it was a bit of a let down upon finding this.
Hope you enjoyed.

Killing The Shadows by Val McDermid.

Heys Guys,
Product Details:
Publisher: Harper Collins 2000
Paperback. 606 Pages.
Source: Bought By Myself.
Rating: 5 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: A killer is on the loose, blurring the line between fact and fiction. His prey – the writers of crime novels who have turned psychological profilers into the heroes of the nineties. But this killer is like no other. His bloodlust shatters all the conventional wisdom surrounding the motives and mechanics of how serial killers operate. And for one woman, the desperate hunt to uncover his identity becomes a matter of life and death. Professor Fiona Cameron is an academic psychologist who uses computer technology to help police forces track serial offenders. She used to help the Met, but vowed never to work for them again after they went against her advice and badly screwed up an investigation as a consequence. Still smarting from the experience, she’s working a case in Toledo when her lover, thriller writer Kit Martin, tells her a fellow crime novelist has been murdered. It’s not her case, but Fiona can’t help taking an interest. Which is just as well, because before too long the killer strikes again. And again. And Fiona is caught up in a race against time, not only to save a life, but to bring herself redemption, both personal and professional.
Fiona and Kit are a couple who are very much in love and straight away you know they stick together through thick and thin and will do anything to keep each other together. Fiona is a professor who is a psychologist who uses computer technology to track serial offenders and Kit writes award winning crime novels. Fiona chose her line of work when her sister was murdered and it made her want to help others going through the same thing but finding the killer. When crime novels just like Kit start to get murdered Fiona can't help but be interested and scared at the same time. The Murder recreates parts of the crime writers novel to kill them off. What ties them all together is each write has already received a letter which are death threats.
Within this book there is 3 investigations going on, Murders in spain, Susan Blanchard's murder which is being solved by Steve and his lover Terry and the one where the crime writers are being killed. This book kept me hooked and I literally couldn't put it down and read any time I wasn't cooking, cleaning or working so managed to read in 3 days.
Brilliant ending doesn't end too quick wasn't rushed and I will definitely be re-reading very soon.
See you soon.

March Book Haul.

Hi guys,
Today I thought I would do a book haul for you guys, as this month I went a bit mad on buying books, but I didn't pay for them myself my lovely fiancé bought them for me as a treat.
All the books were purchased online from The Works
There are 13 altogether and I am just waiting for a delivery of two others. A few of these books I have been after for awhile and some I sounded really good so I had to get them.

These are all my books that I have so far received and sorry the picture is a bit blurry I was just so excited. I am yet to receive Pandemonium and Requiem the last two books in the Delirium series. I am yet to purchase Delirium it's self, but when I saw the other two for just £2.99 each I had to get them as I want this series anyway.

The Grave Tattoo By Val McDermid. 543 pages. Published: 2007.  Well what can I say, I loved Killing The Shadows, which I will be reviewing very soon, so much when I saw this novel I had to go and buy it. I love how Val McDermid writes and I thought this book sounded just as exciting as Killing The Shadows. I think if I enjoy this book also I may have to purchase more if not all of Val McDermid's books. I do tend to think  the covers of her novels don't tie in with the book it's self. Blurb/Synopsis: A 200-YEAR-OLD SSERCRET IS NOW A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH. AND IT COULD BE WORTH A FORTUNE... It's summer in the Lake District and torrential rain has uncovered a bizarrely tattooed body on a hillside. Could it be linked to the centuries-old rumours that surround Fletcher Christian, mutinous First Mate on the ill-fated Bounty, a legendary massacre on the strange island of Pitcairn, and Christian's possible return to England? Jane Gresham wants to know. An expert on Wordsworth, she has a theory that the Lakeland poet, a childhood friends of Christian's, had harboured the fugitive and turned his tale into an epic poem - which has since stayed hidden. But as she follows each lead, death is hard on her heels. The 200-year-old mystery is putting lives at risk. And it isn't just the truth that is waiting to be discovered, but a bounty worth millions of pounds...
Room By Emma Donoghue. 401 pages. Published: 2010. Now this book is one I don't think I would of picked up myself in a store until, I watched videos on youtube of how good this book is and I have read so many great reviews on this book. Now this book was first published in 2010 and all of a sudden it has become very popular in the booktube world, the amount of love people are giving this book I don't know why it took 4 years to become so popular. I don't tend to follow tends as I feel just because someone likes/enjoys something doesn't mean I will, I tend to do/read things in my own time, but this book, as soon as I noticed the love this book was getting I was looking for it all over the internet to purchase it. I think with this cover is ties in with the storyline and I find the book simple but so captivating. Blurb/Synopsis: Jack is five. He lives in a single, locked room with his Ma. This blurb doesn't go into much detail like you would find on a normal book but in those few words it tells you a lot. Can't wait to read will be reading very soon.
Gold Digger By Frances Fyfield. 308 pages. Published: 2012. This book I haven't read or watched any reviews on but when I read the blurb online I loved the sound of it. I haven't heard of this author before so the author is new to me also so hopefully I have bought a very good read. Blurb/Synopsis: The warmth of him, the glorious warmth, was fading by the minute. In a huge old school house by the sea, full of precious paintings, Thomas Porteous is dying. His much younger wife Di holds him and mourns. She knows that soon, despite her being sole inheritor, Thomas's relatives will descend on the collection that was the passion of both their lives. And descend they do. The two needy daughters, who were poisoned against their father by their defecting mother, are now poison themselves. With the help of an unlikely collection of loners and eccentrics, Di sets a trap to hoist the family members on their own greed. And on the night they are lured to the house, she will be ready. Or will she?
First Among Sequels By Jasper Fforde. 395 pages. Published: 2008. This book I have heard a lot about and once again I so badly wanted to read it myself. I love the cover it is very colourful. This book is actually part of a series and I have heard so much about this book on it's own I thought I would give it a go. I'm not sure if I want to read the whole series as I haven't heard much about the other books themselves but I have heard a lot about this book, but me being me will probably read the rest of the series anyways. As it is part of a series I won't put the blurb/synopsis on here for you as some people may find it ruins the others in the series.

A Room Swept White By Sophie Hannah. 454 pages. Published: 2010. This book I haven't heard anything about this book or author, but I just thought it sounded very good. I don't think this is in a series, but even if it is when I looked online at her other books I didn't get excited as much as I did for this book. I'm unsure if the cover ties in with the storyline it's self, but I do think the cover is so pretty, in fact all of the covers for Sophie Hannah's books are very beautiful. Blurb/Synopsis: TV producer Fliss Benson receives an anonymous card at work: sixteen number arranged in four rows of four - numbers that mean nothing to her. On the same day, Fliss finds out she's going to be working on a documentary about miscarriages of justice involving cot-death mothers wrongly accused of murder. The documentary will focus on three women: Helen Yardley, Sarah Jaggard and Rachel Hines. All three are now free, and the child protection sea lot who did her best to send them to prison for life, Dr Juddith Duffy, is under investigation for misconduct. For reasons she shared with nobody, this is the last project Fliss wants to be working on. And then Helen Yardley is found dead at her home, and in her pocket is a card with sixteen numbers on it, arranged in four rows of four... I can not wait to read this book, hopefully will be reviewing it very shortly.
Mister X By John Lutz. 455 pages. Published: 2012. This book I haven't heard anything about, but I have heard of the author before. I love crime/thriller books and this is right up my street. I love the cover as it seems dark and mysterious with the edge of the bright X makes me wanted to know who mister X is. Blurb/Synopsis: Fear leaves a mark... He mutilates his victims. Cuts their throats. And then carves and x into their flesh. Five years ago he claimed the lives of six women and then the killing stopped. And no one knows why. Ex-homicide detective Frank Quinn remembers- which is why he's shocked to see one of the dead women in his office. In fact, she is the identical twin of the last victim, and she wants Quinn to find her sister's murderer. But when the cold case heats up, it attracts the media spotlight - and suddenly the killings start again. This book reminded me of my favourite film(s) Saw, he marks all his victims with a jigsaw piece cut from their flesh and if I am honest that is what made me want to buy and read this book.
The House at Sea's End By Elly Griffiths. 388 pages. Published: 2011. Once again I haven't heard anything about this book or author but I really liked the sound of it. This is Elly Griffiths's Third crime novel but I don't think they are in a series. I love the cover as it goes beautifully with the books title, yet it's quite hauntingly beautiful as well. It was the blurb that made me want to read this book so badly as it reminded me of the Bones series by Kathy Reichs and i have just started the series and so far I love them. Blurb/Synopsis: Ruth Shivers, not entirely from the cold. Who would bury bodies here, in this inaccessible spot? /the bodies are bound, their hands tied behind their backs. When bones are unearthed at the foot of a north Norfolk cliff, forensics expert Ruth Galloway and DCI Nelson are put on the case. The skeletons have lain there for decades, possible since the war, and for all that time a hideous crime has been concealed. When a body washes up on the beach, it becomes clear that someone wants the truth of the past to stay buried, and will go to any lengths to keep it that way. Can Ruth and Nelson uncover the truth in time to stop another victim?

Daddy's Gone A-Hunting By Mary Higgins Clark. 445 pages. Published: 2014. I have heard of this author before and actually have Two Little Girls In Blue by the same author I just haven't read it yet. Both of these books sound very interesting and if I read and enjoy both books I will purchase more from the same author. This book isn't in a series, but she has written many books. The cover is stands out with the dark background and then the white and orange writing. Also with the slightly blurry girl who is running on the cover makes me wonder what is she running from? Blurb/Synopsis: A dark family secret puts the lives of two sisters in grave danger. Hannah Connelly is plunged into a nightmare when she learns that Connelly Fine Antique Reproductions, the family business founded by her grandfather, has been levelled by huge explosion.  The ashes reveal a startling and grisly discovery. Could the explosion have been deliberately set? And what was Kate, Hannah's sister and highflyer in an accounting firm, doing in the building in the middle of the night? With Kate lying in a coma in hospital, it is now down to Hannah to discover what truly happened. But little does she know that someone will do anything they can to prevent Kate regaining consciousness. Will Hannah find out the truth before that person kills to save himself? This sounds like an, edge of your seat kind of story to me and i can not wait to read it.
Divergent By Veronica Roth. 487 pages. Published: 2011. This book is greatly loved worldwide and is out in film as it was so popular. Like the rest of series that everyone loved I was a bit late to go with the tend. I have heard great things about both the book and the film, but it wasn't until I read the reviews of the film I felt the urge to purchase and read these books myself, so when I saw the trilogy for only £9.99 I had to buy them. The reviews haven't spoilt the book for me as I only read ones with no Spoilers in. Blurb/Synopsis: Three flying birds...one for each member of the family I left behind. Sixteen-year-old Tris is forced to make a terrible choice. In a divided society where everyone must conform, Tris does not fit. So she ventures out alone, determined to discover where she truly belongs. Shocked by her brutal new life, Tris can trust no one. And yet she is drawn to a boy who seems to both threaten and protect her. The hardest choice lies ahead. Writing the blurb is the first time I have read it myself and straight away it remind me or Twilight, which I have reviewed here and The Hunger Games, which I have reviewed here. I look forward to reading the whole series.
Insurgent By Veronica Roth. 525 pages.Published: 2012. As of above I have heard great things about this whole series. I love how, as I bought it as a series set, all my cover go together and that they all stand out one way or another. I haven't read the blurb and to stop spoilers for people like myself I won't write it here also.
Allegiant By Veronica Roth. 526 pages. Published: 2013. The final in the "Divergent" series. I can not wait to read this series, and review it for you guys. To stop spoilers, again I won't write the blurb to this story here. If you have read this series feel free to comment below but No Spoilers!

Well I hope you enjoyed this book haul as much as I did writing it and as you can see I have a few books to read now and will be reviewing these books very soon.
See you soon.

●● Waiting on Wednesday - Dust By Patricia Cornwell●●

Hey Guys,
I thought I would try something new this week and get involved in a memo created by the brilliant Breaking the spine.

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly memo that is hosted by Breaking the Spine Blog.
Expected release date: 24th April 2014.
After working on one of the worst mass killings in US history, Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta returns home to recover, but an unsettling call drives her straight back to work. The body of a young woman has been discovered inside the sheltered gates of MIT, draped in an unusual cloth and posed in a way that is too deliberate to be the killer's first strike. A preliminary examination reveals that the body is covered in a fine dust that under ultra-violet light fluoresces blood-red, emerald-green and sapphire-blue, and physical evidence links this to another series of disturbing homicides in Washington, DC. As she pieces together the fragments of evidence, Scarpetta discovers that the cases connect, yet also seem to conflict, drawing herself and her team deeper into the dark world of designer drugs, drone technology, organised crime, and shocking corruption at the highest level.
Dust is a thrilling, addictive novel featuring one of the most iconic, original and compelling characters in crime fiction today.

Now I know this book is already out in hardback, ebook and audiobook, but I have the whole series collection in paperback and I wanted the latest book to match. I have been waiting for this book for what seems like ages, as Patricia Cornwell is without a doubt my favourite author of all time. I have reviewed the Scarpetta series so far here and even wrote a Author Review here. I can not wait to get my hands on this book!!!

The Moaning Life of Karl Pilkington by Karl Pilkington.

Hey Guys,

Product Details:
Publisher: Canongate 2013
Paperback. 357 Pages.
Source: Christmas Present.
Rating: 4 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: I've been on the planet for forty years now and I'm still none the wiser as to what it's all about really. I've never worried about life's big questions. People at my age sit about pondering "why are we here?" The only time I ever asked myself that is when Suzanne booked us a surprise holiday to Lanzarote.' Karl Pilkington is forty years old. He's not married, he doesn't have kids, and he's got a job where he's known as an 'idiot'. It's time for him to take stock and face up to life's big question - what does it all mean? Karl is no stranger to travel, and now he's off on a series of madcap adventures around the globe to find out how other cultures approach life's big issues. Travelling from far-flung tribes to high-tech cities, Karl experiences everything from a drive-thru wedding in Las Vegas to a vocational theme park in Japan, he meets a group of people in Mexico who find happiness through pain, attends a clowning school in LA, and even encounters a woman in Bali who lets him help deliver her baby. Have his experiences changed him? Find out in this hilarious new book where Karl shares his stories (and opinions) in his inimitable style. Karl Pilkington is back on the road, and this times he's on a journey of self-discovery...

My love for Karl Pilkington goes on. Both his books and TV series are the funniest things I have ever seen, and I love every page of this book too. I haven't watched The moaning life TV series as of yet as whenever it is on I miss it, but I plan to buy the DVD and watch over and over.
Karl brightens up any sad or bad days I have as he tells the truth and sees the world as I also see it. Very very funny book, I couldn't put it down. This book is split into to sections: Marriage, Kids, Vocation & money, Happiness and Death. Karl meets weird and wonderful people that have different views on each point/section in the book. He seems to "enjoy" this more than the idiot abroad as he isn't told to do stuff he doesn't want to do. In this book I really enjoyed the Karl's facts and sayings.
This isn't like my usual book review as I cant talk about characters but I highly recommend this book as it's very funny.
See you soon.

You Only Live Once by Katie Price.

Hey Guys,
Product Details:
Publisher: Arrow Books 2012
Paperback. 324 Pages.
Source: Christmas Present.
Rating: 4 out of 5.
Synopsis/Blurb: Break-ups, marriage and moving on. The last two and a half years of Katie Price's life have been anything but quiet. And yet through it all, while her private life continues to be played out on the front pages of the tabloids, Katie has always stuck to what she does best - combining a successful career with the two biggest loves of her life: her three beautiful children and her horses. In this, the latest dazzling instalment of her autobiography, Katie reveals the many highs and lows of the past few years, the challenges she has overcome, and the exhilaration of trying new things. Throughout a highly publicised divorce, her return to the I'm A Celebrity jungle, and her romantic Las Vegas wedding to Celebrity Big Brother winner Alex Reid, Katie has always managed to make the most of every minute. From the woman who always speaks her mind, You Only Live Once gives her devoted and loyal fans the truth behind the headlines, as once again Katie's unflappable nature, humour and incredible determination allow her to set the record straight and tell her side of this rollercoaster story.
I have read some of Katie's Prices books before but not one of her autobiography before as I don't really like these types of books all that much but I thought I would give it a try. I honestly didn't think I would enjoy this as much as I did. I will say when Katie and Peter split up I wasn't on anyones side and still am not. Each have made mistakes and each are happy with new babys in their lives yet once I read this I have learnt about Katie a lot more and I see how much she has been through. This best way to describe how this is written it is as if she is sat talking to you about her life and what happened in it. She is truthful and very honest in the book from good to bad.
I really enjoyed "getting to know" Katie as has pulled through a lot more than I thought she had. I liked this pictures in the book, very glamorous.
Katie does things people either wished they had the guts to do or wish they could do, its all jealousy when they say bad things about her and her family. Everyone has to earn a living and everyones way is different.
This isn't like my usual blog post as I can't talk about the characters and stuff but I really did enjoy this book and have got her new book, Love, Lipsticks and Lies to read.

See you soon.

Cast a Harry Potter Spell!

Hey Guys,
Today I thought I would do a tag for you and I came upon this tag on here. It was originally from Flip that page here. On Feed me books now's blog and loved the sound of it so decided to do it myself.

Reparo

fixes damaged objects
A book that needs some serious fixing: The Birthing House by Christopher Ransom. The cover and synopsis of this book sounded brilliant I so badly wanted to read this book but the book it's self was in my opinion a big let down. I have done a blog post on it here.

Lumos

creates a narrow beam of light
A book that deserves more attention: Book of the Dead by Patricia Cornwell. I know a lot of people enjoy Patricia Cornwell books but I feel this book didn't get the hype it really deserved.

Nox

counters the effects of Lumos
An overhyped book: The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith/J k Rowling. I was recommended this book by a lot of people, I had newsletters and emails about how great this book is and I also was told by fellow Goodreaders or blogger it was a great book, me myself I thought it was okay not as good as I was expecting though.

Accio

summons an object from a significant distance
A book you’re anticipating: Dust by Patricia Cornwell. I know this book is already out, but I don't own a kindle and don't like hardbacks so I am waiting for it to come out in paperback.

Alohomora

opens unlocked doors, unless bewitched
A book you want to be more open about: Fifty Shades of Grey by E L James. I am not into reading erotic novels I have tried but I just couldn't get in to it and when the sex parts came I felt awkward, but I think that is because I was a lot younger and since starting this blog I have tried different books.

Expecto Patronum

conjures an incarnation of positive feelings
A book that made you cry, or at least want to: Ghost Girl by Torey Hayden. This story touched my heart and life so much I have re-read count less times and everytime I cry. I love it so much it is very up lifting.

Morsmordre

conjures the Dark Mark
A book you wish to mark as one of your favorites: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J K Rowling. I don't know why in the whole series this one is my favourite as it was hyped about as much as the first or last book but I really enjoyed this book.

Petrificus Totalus

petrifies victim
A book you wish to keep forever: Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Do I really need to explain why?

Protego

shield charm
An intimidating book you keep putting off: The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. I have seen the film and had the book for at least 4 years, but it's so big in page numbers I always put it safely back on it's shelf and tell myself it's going to be the next book I read.

Riddikulus

used against a boggart
A book with a deceiving synopsis: The Birthing House by Christopher Ransom. Same reason as before (reparo) it sounded like a great book....oh boy was I wrong.

Lacarnum Inflamarae

shoots fireballs
A book you wish to burn out of your mind completely: The Birthing House By Christopher Ransom. Can you tell I really didn't like this book yet?

Wingardium Leviosa

levitates objects
A book you wish to reread: The Maze Runner by James Dashner. Oh boy what a great page turner.

Avada Kedavra

causes instant death
Worst book EVER: The Haunted by Niki Valentine. I hated this book, it was so predictable and it was so easy to read I felt I was reading a book for a 5 year old. I have written a blog post here.

So there you go I really enjoyed doing this book tag.
See you soon
